Deep tissue massage is a form of massage that focuses on restoring the deeper layers of muscles and connective tissue. It is particularly effective in treating chronic muscle tension and cramped areas such as a stiff neck, lower back pain and painful shoulders.
When you have chronic muscle tension it is often due to adhesions (bands of painful, rigid tissue) in muscles, tendons and ligaments. Adhesions can block blood flow, cause pain and restrict movement. Adhesions also prevent energy from flowing freely through the body.
Deep tissue massage works by physically breaking down the adhesions and thereby reducing pain and restoring the body’s ability to move normally.
