What is floating?
Floating: relaxing and healthy
Floating is weightlessly relaxing on the surface of very salty water..
The special Epsom salts in the heated water are similar in effect to the Dead Sea, where you effortlessly keep floating on the surface. The water is kept continuously heated to body temperature. After a few minutes you hardly notice which parts of your body are in contact with the water, and which aren’t. The tranquillity, the equable temperature and the lack of gravity make you feel as though you are floating in outer space.
Let your mind go free for a while
At Koan Float, you will enter our specially designed tank that shuts out external stimuli. Your body and mind will no longer be distracted by environmental factors such as noise, fluctuations in temperature, visual stimulation and gravity.
If you come to Koan Float for a float session, you will be in charge of switching the lights on or off, the music, the air circulation, the intercom and ‘opening-or-closing’ the tank lid. You will quickly realize, however, that in your private floating space you need nothing else. Experience deep relaxation like you have never experienced it before!
Great benefits without having to do anything
Floating is the most effective method for relaxing and reducing stress. In the past few decades a lot of research has been conducted on the positive effects of floating. Float tank therapy is now used as a medical treatment to help all sorts of ailments, pain and disease. Furthermore, most of the effects are cumulative; the more you float, the stronger the effects!

Greater knowledge through scientific research
The effective theory behind floating is known as “floatation R.E.S.T.” (“Restricted Environmental Stimulation Therapy”). It was originally used as a medical therapeutic aid. The American neuro-psychiatrist Professor Dr. John Lilly, affiliated with the National Institute of Mental Health in the United States, developed this technique in the 1950s.
In the ensuing years it was mainly researchers and private users who floated. From 1983 onwards floating became increasingly popular worldwide, particularly because of the growth in scientific knowledge about the effects of floating. Koan Float introduced floating into the Netherlands in 1997, where it has increased in popularity ever since.
Koan Float: expert in floating
Koan Float designs these special tanks itself through our fully-owned subsidiary Koan Float Technologies. Since the foundation of Koan Float, in 1997, our cabins have undergone countless tests, on technological aspects as well as on water quality and hygiene. We are currently using three new float cabins which became operative in 2012. Moreover, we supply tanks all over Europe, for floating centres, sports schools, swimming pools and hospitals. The experience we have gained over many years now makes us an expert in floating and float tanks.
